 Auvernier,  |   Les Graviers

Short Description
First reported at the end of the 19th century, this site is now on dry land, covered by an embankment. From 1924 onwards, it was the subject of several excavations, followed in 1973 and 1974 by rescue operations. There were four successive phases of occupation, attributed to the Neolithic period. Finds include artefacts attributed to the late Middle Neolithic period, Cortaillod type Port-Conty. The Late Neolithic period is represented by occupation at Horgen (3159 to 3054 BCE), the Lüscherz culture (2789 to 2701 BCE) and probably also at Auvernier-Cordé. The archaeological layer reaches 1.2 m in places, protected by layers of pebbles (tenevia). Further south, an area studied in 1974 revealed settlements dating from Horgen, Lüscherz, the late Early Bronze Age (1648 to 1610 BCE) and the Late Bronze Age (1055 to 944 BCE).

Special Features & Highlights
In 1924, Paul Vouga conducted a survey in the centre of the deposit, where he discovered an accumulation of weights, giving this area the name ‘weaver's house’. Four archaeological layers have already been identified: Cortaillod type Port-Conty, Horgen, Lüscherz and Auvernier-Cordé.
